About Us
Grand Valley Anglers was started over 30 years ago and with over 300 members is the largest chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers in Western Colorado.

We are more than just a fishing club.  Our purpose is to:

"Preserve, Protect, and Restore cold water resources and their watersheds, and to educate the public about this mission"

To fulfill this mission, we engage in a number of activities across conservation, education, and fishing

Conservation/Advocacy

West Creek – Sponsorship, clean-up and water monitoring

Carson Lake cleanup - This is a USFS Adopt-A-Lake project.  Clean-up around the lake, have a picnic and fish.

Stocking Gunnison River - Our chapter has contributed many man-hours to stocking the Gunnison, first with generic rainbows, lately with Hoefer hybrids. The WD-resistant hybrids seem to be surviving, and CDOW is hopeful that evolution will lead to a self-sustaining repopulation of Gunnison River rainbows.

Anglers’ Roundtables -Represented TU at CDOW events concerning controversial issues.

Aspinall meetings - Represent TU at meetings concerning water flows from the Aspinall Unit into the Gunnison

Grand Mesa National Forest Travel Management Plan - Represent TU in the formation of the TMP

Education

Western Colorado Fly Fishing Exposition - The Western Colorado Fly Fishing Expo has developed into a great education experience for all ages, a fund raiser for cold water resources, a good public outreach program and a Great Time!

Fly tying and casting instruction at GJHS - This happens a couple of times a year, as requested by the high school. Jon Gartz organizes this activity.

Project Healing Waters -  is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings.  We sponsor this program on the Western Slope

Western Colorado Science Fair - Held at Mesa State College, the fair features student scientists. Several members have been judges at the fair.  We present the chapter’s Bill Baird award to the winner of a category suitable to TU’s interests.

CTU Youth Camp - GVA has sponsored a student to the youth camp for the past several years.

C.A.S.T. - stands for "Catch a Special Thrill". Special needs kids come to Ridgway for the day, and fish in the ponds.
